I just got back from looking at one of my plots and it has been over taken by wild onions. I noticed a little patch of them last year and disked them....big mistake. Does anyone know what herbicides are effective in wiping them out?

Thanks,

Yukkie--the worst. It is tough to kill the onion b/c of the waxy coat they have on them.A strong concentration of Roundup will kill them if it can to the foliage. One thing you can try is to use a 5% concentration of roundup, add a surfactactant to it which will help it sticks to the wild onion. If possible, one thing that does help is to try to damage the foliage part before spraying---you might try dragging some chain link fence over the onions before spraying--this mechanical damage may remove some of the waxy coating so the roundup can get to the green foliage.
