View Full Version : I know chicory is good for drought but...
What would be a good, high protein food plot seed that would be good for really wet soil.....maybe sometimes even standing water in the field??

Trefoil is a very good plant that as Ed says "Doesn't mind getting its feet wet." It is very similiar nutritionally to alfalfa but much much easier to grow--not as pick on soil type and tolerates a little lower pH. It is also a long standing perineal, giving you several years with proper maintainance. If you want more info on trefoil contact www.hamannfarms.com this guys farms his own trefoil and mixes a variety of deer blends.
good luck

You might try brown top millet. The guys in Ms used to plant it in bottoms where it sometimes flooded and it seemed to do well even after prolonged flooding. If you want to plant some trees in the area, use overcup oak, they are available from Forrest Keeling Nursery here in Mo, and are very flood tolerant and produce a large sweet acorn that deer love.
