I have two plots adjacent to each other, one is allready planted in Ladino clover which I plan on reseeding in the spring with bio-new zealand, the other plot is new, I planed on turning up the ground and keeping it bare until the fall and planting it in the fall with a fall blend, my question is can I plant it with a spring blend in the spring and then just broadcast over it in the fall with a fall blend without turning up the ground?? anyone have success with this?

Bio-New Zealand? Fall Blend? Spring Blend?
If you want brasicas, .... plant rape, turnips, ect. mid to late summer for a fall/winter plot.
If you planted a Ladino plot last year, the same plot will come up even thicker with Ladino this year ..... unless it is/was weed choked.A well done (prepped and maintained) Ladino plot should last 3-5 years or even longer.
Skip the "Blends" and plant just the seed you need/want.

carbine---i read this over at the Michigan sportsman forum---it was a recommendation of Mr. Ed Spin..... He is a firm believer in roundup ready soybeans--He recommends planting the RR SB---waiting 4 weeks then spraying the entire plot with roundup. This will kill any weeds or unwanted grass that has germinated. Then a couple weeks prior to fall planting spray again. this should give a good weed free plot. He then recommends just broadcasting into the soybeans wheat and brassicas. It is better to broadcast just prior to a rain--as the rain helps "push" the seed to the gound for better germination. Both these seeds germinate very easy. I would think you could also broadcast some clover with the wheat and brassicas. This sounds like a great plan and I am going to try doing this this year.
I have a 2 acre plot that I have planted the last 2 years in a spring annual mixture that is mainly soybeans and cowpeas. Last year I had a bad weed problem. This year I am going to disc the plot up mid-april---plant 150# of roundup ready soybeans and 50 pounds of oats. The oats will mature in mid-june--and then I will spray the entire plot with round up. Hopefully, the soybeans will not be overbrowsed and last until early fall. I will then spray again with roundup late july. Sept 1 I will then broadcast a wheat/rye mixture, turnip/rape mixture, and red clover into the remaining soybeans. The soybeans will last until first freeze--then the wheat/brassica/clover mixture will be going strong. I hope it works.
good luck with your plot

Dogdoc, I think Ed was talking about a fall planting of RR soys, i.e. planted the first week of Sept.. Then, four weeks later, broadcast the brassica and wheat. May be wrong, Tom

My Dad wants to put out some oats or wheat in the spring. Will this keep the overbrowsing down on some of the legumes I want to start? Will the oats or wheat grow good in the spring? Which one would you put down, I don't know the cost of either, but I will find out?

Thayer, I always plant oats with my legumes in the spring. I believe they are preferred over wheat. They pop up very quickly and the deer love the oats. They mature in about mid-june here--then the turkeys love picking at the seed heads. I also have video of deer stripping the seed heads off the plant.
Oats run about 7 to 8 bucks for 50#. I will usually add 50# per acre of oats when broadcasted with cowpeas.

Thanks double d, I talked to Dad and he didn't care which one we used. I think the oats will get the call for the seeds that could feed the quail that we are trying to grow also. Have you or anybody ever heard of a product called Green Graze? It is supposed to have be a blend that is about perfect for quail. jeff
