Default My review of Eagle Seeds forage soybeans

Soybean Man.....great job!

I gave these beans a pretty harsh test this year. Due to outside circumstances, I was not able to get the seed in the ground until July 23rd. A whole lot later than I wanted to. I broadcast the seed then cultipacked instead of drilling, but still had great germination. We had one, maybe two good rains at the farm shortly after planting, then slipped into a long hot drought. Things are dry as a bone there now.

Here is one of the 1/2 acre plots 5 weeks ago.

After not being able to get to the farm for 5 weeks, I finally had time Saturday to put up stands and mow my plots and trails. When I got to the first bean plot, I thought "Wow this drought has really taken its toll on the beans." I was not surprised and was not upset. I just assumed Mother Nature had gotten the best of them. Here is what I saw.

After I rounded a corner and saw the plot with the utilization cage in it, I honestly laughed out loud. I've never used a ut. cage in the past, but you can bet I will from now on. Here is that plot.

I am simply amazed at how well the beans grew in spite of the severe conditions they had to put up with.

1) Late planting
2) VERY little rain
3) No soil test, no fertilizer, and no lime...due to same outside circumstances mentioned above.

I just wanted to share my experience with anyone looking for a bean to plant in 2008.

I've got to get some of those beans. Great picture of the cage telling the whole story.

Thumbs up

Wow! I'd have made the same assumption as you. I intend to plant some beans next year. I'll remember those. Thanks for the report and pics.

I can certainly agree to their durability and palatability during severe conditions. We are shattering heat records right now and Soybean Mans forage soys. have performed better than ANYTHING we planted. BB
